WiFi Doorman
For UniFi networks

Every new device asks first.

WiFi Doorman keeps new devices off your WiFi until you say yes. Allow or block them with one tap, right from a notification on your phone.

No app store needed. Works on iPhone, Android and computers. 14-day free trial.

How it works

1

It learns your home

Connect your UniFi and check the devices already on it. Nothing is blocked until you've had a look.

2

New devices wait at the door

Within seconds of joining, anything new is taken off the WiFi and your phone gets a notification with its name and maker.

3

You decide with one tap

Allow it and it's back online in seconds. Block it and it stays out. Change your mind any time.

One setting worth knowing

Keep your family's phones recognised

Phones can hide behind a private address that changes now and then, and each change looks like a new device. Keep it on Fixed for your home WiFi and a phone is recognised every time. It takes a minute, and you can send the steps to everyone at home.

See the steps

Simple for the family

  • Plain words, no network jargon. Device names and makers you'll recognise.
  • Invite family to help: they can allow, block and rename devices.
  • A full history of who allowed or blocked what, and when.
  • Helps you clear out old devices and random addresses.

Careful by design

  • Uses UniFi's own blocking, nothing installed on your network.
  • Routers, servers and other important devices can be marked never-blocked.
  • A safety brake pauses everything if too many changes happen at once.
  • Your UniFi key is stored encrypted and never shown again.
For installers

Give every client a doorman

Connect your UniFi consoles once, invite each homeowner by email, and see every site on one dashboard: what's waiting, which trials are ending, and which controller needs a look.

  • Works with Dream Machines, Cloud Gateways, Cloud Keys and UniFi OS Server.
  • Set your own price. Clients pay you directly through Stripe.
  • Alerts when a controller stops answering, and when it's back.
  • Remind owners about waiting devices with one tap.
  • Your staff can help, with their own sign-in.

Questions

What do I need?

A UniFi console with the UniFi Network app: a Dream Machine or Cloud Gateway, a Cloud Key, or UniFi OS Server. Your WiFi has to come from UniFi access points, because they're what keeps blocked devices off. The router itself doesn't have to be UniFi. Wired devices can only be blocked when they're plugged into a UniFi switch, so WiFi Doorman watches WiFi only unless you turn wired on.

Do I need an installer?

No. If you have your own UniFi console, sign in and choose "I have my own UniFi". If someone set up your network for you, they can invite you instead.

What does WiFi Doorman need from my UniFi?

An API key you create in UniFi. It lets WiFi Doorman see which devices are connected and block or unblock them. You can delete the key at any time to cut access straight away.

Will it knock my devices offline?

Not the ones you already have. You check them first, and nothing is blocked until you finish that step. After that, only new devices wait for an answer.

What about phones that change their address?

Many phones hide behind a made-up "private" address. On most phones it stays the same for each WiFi, but if it changes, the phone looks new and asks again. Setting it to Fixed or Off for your home WiFi prevents that. Steps for iPhone, Android, Samsung, Windows and Mac.

Can a new device get online at all?

Briefly. WiFi Doorman checks your UniFi about every 15 seconds, so a brand-new device can be connected for a few seconds, up to about 15, before it's blocked. After that it stays off until you allow it.

Is it a full security system?

No. It's a doorman for your WiFi: it greatly reduces unknown devices, but it doesn't replace strong WiFi passwords and keeping your equipment up to date.
